Supra Energy Website

An eCommerce website with Mobile first design approach

  company overview

Supra Energy is an Indian LED lighting manufacturer and caters to needs of Businesses and Professionals. Their target audience included multi showroom chains, architects and Interior designers.

  project overview

Supra’s future plans of creating an ecosystem of smart lighting solutions and growing market demand required an eCommerce platform that allowed their users to easily navigate and search a 100k+ product catalogue.

  my role

As the Lead UX Designer I was responsible for creating strategy, wireframing, UI / UX , prototyping and content management. I was also responsible for refreshing brand identity, product photoshoot and product classification.

The Problem

Supra Energy’s primary target audience is store owners, interior designers and architects. They have a vast catalogue of products that often vary slightly in specifications. It was important to make these specifications and differences stand out so that their target audience can make decisions quickly and efficiently.

Our biggest challenge was to create an online product catalogue that was not just easy to understand but also effective in finding the product that the visitor was looking for. As per Supra’s research, their target audience’s primary device was mobile phones. SO we needed to create a solution that worked well on mobile phones.

The Solution

Data presented by the client showed that the target audience’s heavy reliability on Mobile Phones to do business onsite meant that we would have to prioritize their preferred means of accessing the portal.

Creating a stand alone mobile app was ruled out as the client also wanted to have a functional eCommerce website to accompany a mobile solution. Hence it was decided that a Mobile First approach towards an e-commerce portal would be a much better and manageable solution as per client’s requirements.

Since, their product lineup hasn’t been catalogued for an eCommerce website before. Based on inputs from architects and interior designers we identified key metrics that they search for while finalizing products. Based on their inputs a functional hierarchy was created for the product catalogue. It allowed us to present a tremendous amount of data in a way that users could easily navigate through it. In order to efficiently group their products we had to create a multi-tiered hierarchy for product finder.

Results

Working on this project was insightful as I had a valuable experience of working with a huge catalogue of products with complex hierarchy and variations. It gave me a unique opportunity to not just understand their whole product range but also create a hierarchy for their product lineup so user could easily navigate and find the exact product that fit their needs.
